Major Internet Failure Hits Numerous Online Platforms and Apps

A large-scale online failure has affected numerous sites and apps globally, as users noting problems connecting to the web after problems at the cloud computing service.

The disrupted apps include the social media app Snapchat, Roblox, the messaging service Signal, and Duolingo, in addition to multiple Amazon-managed platforms like its key e-commerce platform and the Ring doorbell doorbell company.

In the UK, the financial institution Lloyds was affected as well as its affiliates Halifax and the Scottish bank, and additional accounts of issues using the HMRC website on that morning. Furthermore across the UK, multiple Ring users took to online platforms to state their doorbells were malfunctioning.

In the UK alone, accounts of issues on specific apps totaled the thousands for each platform.

The company stated that the problem began in the Atlantic coast of the America at the cloud division, a division that offers vital online backbone for a host of firms, who utilize resources on AWS infrastructure. The cloud platform is the most extensive cloud computing platform.

Shortly after late night (PDT) in the America (morning UK time), Amazon confirmed “elevated failure rates and slowdowns” for Amazon's platforms in a region on the east coast of the America. The cascading impact appeared to hit services around the world, and the problem monitoring service indicating outages with the corresponding services in multiple continents.

Cisco’s Thousand Eyes, a service that reports on web disruptions, further indicated a rise in issues on Monday morning, including several cases found in the Virginia area, the region of Amazon’s US-East-1 region where the company stated the outage originated.
