Courageous Train Employee Receives Critical Injuries Amid Multiple Knife Incident on Express Train

A brave railway employee who intervened to save travelers during a multiple knife attack on a express train has suffered critical injuries, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

Details of the Terrifying Event

CCTV footage allegedly shows the staff member trying to halt the attacker as the train traveled between a city and another station in the county. Witnesses recounted a terrifying 14-minute period after the train departed Peterborough, with injured passengers running through compartments.

The individual, a 32-year-old British national from Peterborough, is in custody for questioning. Authorities announced a major event on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in central London.

Emergency Reaction and Consequences

The incident on Saturday night resulted in 11 people being cared for in hospital after the train made an unscheduled stop at the station in Huntingdon. Several individuals have now been released from medical care.

A bystander filmed the individual brandishing a large knife and being subdued with a stun device as he confronted officers on the platform. He was allegedly heard yelling, "End my life, kill me."

“This awful event has created broad consequences. We are thinking of the victims and their families – particularly the brave employee of rail staff whose family are being supported by specialist personnel,” stated a high-ranking police official.

Union Reaction and Calls for Action

Rail unions were swift to praise staff and call for increased measures. A union official said he would be “requesting immediate meetings with authorities, train companies and police to guarantee that we have the best available assistance, resources and effective procedures in operation”.

Another association representative urged the rail company and authorities “to move quickly to review security, to help the affected employees, and to ensure nothing like this occurs again”.

Operator Praised for Rapid Thinking

The train driver who stopped the train at Huntingdon was reported as being “deeply affected” but “well”, and has been commended by union officials for doing “exactly the right thing”.

“He didn’t stop the train in the center of two stops where it’s obviously difficult for the first responders to reach, but he continued going until he arrived to Huntingdon, where the assistance was almost waiting,” explained a association representative.

Additional Information

Police said they received the initial distress calls at 7:39 pm, and the train was forced to make an unscheduled stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

One witness described initially thinking if the event was a Halloween prank, but soon understood from people's expressions that it was real.

Police have confirmed there is no evidence to suggest the event was a terror-related attack and have asked the community to provide with any additional details.

Rail services on the affected route are expected to experience disruption until Monday, with travelers recommended to postpone their travel where possible.

Anyone with details that could help the investigation are encouraged to contact police by sending a message a designated number with a case code.
